Fashionable and stylish. First Lady of the Republic’s two-tone dress attracts media attention

Agata Kornhauser-Duda’s outfit from Atelier De Marco, in which she appeared during the wreath-laying ceremony at the Katyn Monument in Jersey City, drew the attention of those gathered. The black and white formal dress with an interesting cut, inspired by a jacket – perfectly emphasised the perfect figure of the First Lady of the Republic of Poland. The clearly accentuated shoulder line gave the whole outfit an air of solemnity, at the same time alluding to the most popular trends of the moment. The choice of dress in the most classic colour duo also had a symbolic dimension – Katyn was the site of mass executions of Polish officers carried out by the Soviet NKVD in the spring of 1940, during World War II.

The colours used in the design of the First Lady of the Republic of Poland’s dress – black and white – are colours that play an important role in the symbolism associated with the victims of the Katyn massacre. Black symbolises not only the mourning associated with the tragedy of the Katyn massacre, but also the honour, memory and respect for the fallen officers and their heroism in the face of death. White, on the other hand, can be an excellent reference to the innocence of the victims of the crime. It helps to emphasise the pursuit of truth, justice and remembrance of the victims of the crime.
